Insomnia

Sleeping disorders are a fairly common complaint. Many times, sleeping disorders, such as insomnia or over sleeping, can be a sign of a more serious emotional disorder. Having trouble falling asleep, or sleeping too much can both be signs of depression or anxiety disorders.

The stress of anxiety can often cause insomnia, as a person is consumed by worry and cannot fall asleep or will wake up repeatedly in the night. The opposite is also true, as some people tend to oversleep in order to escape their worries.

The same can be true of depression. Sometimes, the sadness and feelings of hopelessness can weigh so heavily on a person’s mind that he or she is unable to fall asleep. In other cases, a person will refuse to get out of bed in an attempt to escape from the pain and sadness.

It is important for someone suffering from a sleeping disorder, either insomnia or oversleeping, to seek professional help, as sleeping disorders can be a sign of a more serious issue.
