Isolation

Many times a person suffering from an emotional disorder will begin to become isolated from the rest of the world. This isolation can take many forms with varying degrees of isolation.

Isolation is often related to self-image and can be a symptom of social anxiety or depression. Many people with social anxiety will try to minimalize face-to-face human contact, or reduce the intensity of interaction by hiding behind sunglasses or some other way to place a barrier between themselves or others. This barrier can also take the form of a greater interest in photography, with the camera acting as a sort of shield.

In some cases, a person will begin to interact with people through the phone or Internet to avoid face-to-face contact. This can result in the person making contact with dangerous people online.

Isolation can also take a more extreme form. Some people with greater social anxiety or another emotional disorder will begin to seek a more complete separation and will often lock themselves in their room or keep a greater difference between themselves and others. This can result in a complete avoidance of human interaction.

It is important for someone seeking isolation to get professional help in order to learn to cope with social anxiety or another emotional disorder in a healthy way. Isolation can lead a person into unhealthy situations and can be a sign of a more serious issue.
